Psalm 46 (February 25)

(Daily updated posts will begin on February 26)

1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.

2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
Selah

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.

5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.

6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

7 The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah

8 Come and see the works of the LORD,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.

9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
he burns the shields with fire.

10 "Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth."

11 The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah

A Starter-Prayer…
Lord Jesus,
Our country (and even our world)
are experiencing troubles
that many of us have never witnessed in our lifetimes.
People are afraid. Even I become afraid.
Sometimes it feels like the earth is giving way under my feet.

These are the things that get me wrapped up in fear...
(tell God about those now)

When I start letting worry dominate my life,
Remind me, Lord Jesus,
That You are my Refuge.
You are my Hope.
You are my Strength.
And I can trust you.
Therefore I don’t have to give in to fear,
Because You are with me!
You are like the walls of a castle surrounding me!

When I think about the cross
And when I focus on that resurrection morning,
And when I remember that that was for ME,
I am reminded of the love that You have for me.
And suddenly my fears melt into trust.

I love you, Lord, and I trust you.

Amen

  3. I am really excited about this. I have done a fast for lent in the past, but have never had anyone to support me. It will be nice to see what other people are doing and have some support.

  4. Thank you for providing this avenue. I plan to give up TV for lent and spend the time in the word learning more about my savior. It is so awesome to have a place to go for support. Thanks again for putting this out there. Cam

  7. I think the words that stuck out to me in the reading today we "be still". As we enter into the Lent season I think it will be important to sit back and let God speak into our lives. That cannot happen without sitting back in stillness. To know God in stillness is something that we should all strive for.

  8. I loved the truth that God is an "EVER-PRESENT" help in trouble....never leaves, never changes. THEREFORE (in light of that truth), I will not fear. Pretty sweet. I'm loving this Lent/fasting/prayer/blogging stuff!

  9. I really liked how verse 6 of the Psalm describes God lifting his voice and the earth melting and the very next verse tells us that He is with us. We have an earth-melting God who cares about our troubles! If He is for us, who can be against us? I am eager to see what our God will do over the next 46 days!

  10. God is awesome. Last week I felt Him telling me to be still and know He is GOD. This week this verse really sunk in for me...God is within her, she will not fall;God will keep her at the break of day. v. 5
    I mentioned to my kids this morning that I was going to fast to think more about God and the cross and my daughter said she wants to fast as well! She's going to be thinking about what to give up today. I'm excited to see what God is going to do in my 7 yr old!

  11. I shook (shivers up my spine) when I read the words, "the LORD Almighty is with us, the God of Jacob is our fortress." That is such an often repeated theme in the Bible, and every once in awhile the reality of it jumps off the page, "Mark, I'm with you. Don't be afraid."

    This is going to be an awesome journey for the Cstone family. Shalom on all who are seeking God this Lent!
